Amethyst "Caves"

These amethyst clusters are from Brazil and are impressive examples of the type of amethyst native to this country. Normally they start from the outside in with a layer of copper-bearing green volcanic mud, followed by a layer of Brazilian banded agate, clear quartz and then amethyst. Some especially fine amethyst clusters have a final layer of fine crystalline calcite on top of the amethyst.
